So that it doesn\u2019t seem quite so long until the next holidays<\/strong>, plenty of people opt for short<\/strong> weekend getaways<\/strong>, which can sometimes last a little longer thanks to autumn bank holidays<\/strong>.\u00a0 If this sounds familiar and you\u2019re looking for enriching experiences<\/strong> that fill you with energy,<\/strong> out of the city and surrounded by beautiful mountains<\/strong>, make sure you get away to unique corners of Southern Spain<\/strong> like the Sierra de Grazalema<\/a> (C\u00e1diz), chosen this year as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, and take advantage of its proximity to the Sierra de Ronda to enjoy one of the zone\u2019s little known attractions: its wines<\/strong>, which belong to the Sierras de M\u00e1laga Appellation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Depending on how much time you have and how you like to travel, choose between touring the region\u2019s wineries <\/strong>to enjoy the wines in the terroir<\/em> next to the barrels; or taste them in comfort while sat at a restaurant <\/strong>that serves up local produce<\/strong>, organic food<\/strong> and that affords spectacular views<\/strong> over the mountains: \u201cDe la tierra<\/strong>\u201d restaurant at the Fuerte Grazalema<\/a> hotel.<\/p>\n

Serran\u00eda de Ronda wines and wineries<\/h2>\n

\"autumn<\/p>\n

The Serran\u00eda de Ronda wineries<\/strong> are noted for producing their grapes on land at a great height above sea level; the soil texture is sandy, with clay and a limestone subsoil; they are also known for enjoying a cold damp climate in winter and a lot of heat in summer. The most common white<\/strong> varieties are Chardonnay, Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc; and red<\/strong> varieties include Cabernet, Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Tempranillo. If you decide to visit some of the region\u2019s wineries<\/strong> without travelling more than one hour from Fuerte Grazalema, make sure you include some of the following Top 5<\/strong> on your route: Bodega Do\u00f1a Felisa<\/a> (1999); Bodega La Melonera<\/a> (2003); Bodega Cuesta La Vi\u00f1a<\/a> as well as those that produce ecological wine Bodegas Joaqu\u00edn Fern\u00e1ndez<\/a> (2000) and Bodegas F. Schatz<\/a> (1982).<\/p>\n

If, on the other hand, you prefer to relax or do some trekking, you can book tastings<\/strong> for lunch or dinner time, sit down at a table at our well appointed \u201cDe la tierra<\/strong>\u201d restaurant<\/strong> and pair local specialities, many of which are prepared using organic produce<\/strong>, with some of the star wines<\/strong> from the wineries mentioned above. Our whites<\/strong> are the \u201cCloe Chardonnay<\/em>\u201d by Do\u00f1a Felisa, particularly recommended for rice dishes; or \u201cLa encina del ingl\u00e9s blanco<\/em>\u201d by La Melonera, delicious with white meats and fish; our ros\u00e9s<\/strong> include the exquisite \u201cF. Schatz<\/em>\u201d, which pairs very well with everything, even vegetables; when it comes to reds<\/strong> we offer the power and complex \u201cLos frutales<\/em>\u201d by Joaqu\u00edn Fern\u00e1ndez, ideal for barbecues, red meats and cheeses; \u201cJorge\u00a0 Bonet<\/em>\u201d by Cuesta La Vi\u00f1a, whose intense maroon red is a perfect match for the best red meat in from the local area; \u201cLa encina del ingl\u00e9s tinto<\/em>\u201d, <\/em>spectacular when drunk along with traditional acorn fed ham; or \u201cPayoya negra\u201d, also by Melonera, who wanted to use this complex and intense wine, with aromas of sweet spices, to pay homage to one of the best known products of the Sierra de Grazalema: the payoya goat.
