At the request of the <strong>Spanish Global Compact Network<\/strong> which <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fuerte-group.com\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fuerte Group Hotels<\/a><\/strong> has been a member of since <strong>2016<\/strong>, the Andalucian company has become the <strong>first hotel chain <\/strong>in the world to <strong>sign <\/strong>the <strong>\u201c9 Sustainable Ocean Principles\u201d<\/strong>, which have been drawn up in collaboration with the <strong>UN Global Compact<\/strong>, and which <strong>aim<\/strong> to ensure the <strong>health<\/strong> and <strong>sustainability<\/strong> of the oceans and therefore meet the <strong>challenges<\/strong> which were set out in the <strong>Paris Agreement<\/strong> and the <strong>2030 Agenda<\/strong>. This <strong>family-owned business<\/strong>, which was founded in <strong>Marbella<\/strong> <strong>63 years ago<\/strong>, has always been very <strong>conscious<\/strong> of the importance <strong>of protecting<\/strong> the <strong>natural environments<\/strong> where its <strong>establishments<\/strong> are located, and given that nearly all of its hotels are located on the <strong>seafront<\/strong> it places particular importance on the <strong>sea<\/strong>. That is why the name of the <strong>brand <\/strong>that it has created for its <strong>adult-only establishments<\/strong>, <strong>Am\u00e0re<\/strong>, comes from the amalgamation of the two Spanish words, \u201c<strong>amor<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>mar<\/strong>\u201d, which mean <strong>love<\/strong> and <strong>sea<\/strong>, (love of the sea).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>9 sustainable ocean principles<\/h2>\n<p>The following <strong>measures <\/strong>proposed by the <strong>Spanish Global Compact Network<\/strong> in collaboration with the <strong>UN Global Compact<\/strong> <strong>to restore the health of the ocean<\/strong> and help it to recover from the <strong>damage <\/strong>which has been caused by increasing temperatures, the acidification of water, the depletion of the natural resources that ocean dwelling animals feed on, and by pollution in general:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>1 &#8211; Ocean health and productivity<\/h3>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Principle 1:<\/strong><\/em> Assess the short- and long-term impact of their activities on ocean health and incorporate such impacts into their strategy and policies.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Principle 2:<\/strong><\/em> Consider sustainable business opportunities that promote or contribute to restoring, protecting or maintaining ocean health and productivity and livelihoods dependent on the ocean.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Principle 3:<\/strong><\/em> Take action to prevent pollution affecting the ocean, reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their operations to prevent ocean warming and acidification, and work towards a circular economy.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Principle 4:<\/strong><\/em> Plan and manage their use of and impact on marine resources and space in a manner that ensures long-term sustainability and take precautionary measures where their activities may impact vulnerable marine and coastal areas and the communities that are dependent upon them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>2 &#8211; Government and engagement<\/h3>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Principle 5:<\/strong><\/em> Engage responsibly with relevant regulatory or enforcement bodies on ocean-related laws, regulations and other frameworks.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Principle 6:<\/strong><\/em> Follow and support the development of standards and best practices that are recognized in the relevant sector or market contributing to a healthy and productive ocean and secure livelihoods.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Principle 7:<\/strong><\/em> Respect human-, labour- and indigenous peoples\u2019 rights in the company\u2019s ocean-related activities, including exercise appropriate due diligence in their supply-chain, consult and engage with relevant stakeholders and communities in a timely, transparent and inclusive manner, and address identified impacts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>3 &#8211; Data and transparency<\/h3>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Principle 8:<\/strong><\/em> Where appropriate, share relevant scientific data to support research on and mapping of relevance to the ocean.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Principle 9:<\/strong><\/em> Be transparent about their ocean-related activities, impacts and dependencies in line with relevant reporting frameworks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Clean Seas Campaign<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-49010\" src=\"https:\/\/rsc.fuerte-group.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/oceano-sostenible-2.jpg\" alt=\"Oc\u00e9anos sostenibles\" width=\"640\" height=\"420\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fuerte Group Hotels<\/strong> has decided to sign these principles as part of the recently-launched \u201c<strong>Clean Seas<\/strong>\u201d campaign, aiming to strengthen the company\u2019s <strong>sustainable development<\/strong> policies while also continuing to work to meet its <strong>Sustainable Development Goals<\/strong>. These <strong>initiatives <\/strong>include the collaboration <strong>agreement <\/strong>entered into with the <strong>Aula del Mar de M\u00e1laga <\/strong>(the Classroom of the Sea), a scientific research entity which has become a <strong>leader <\/strong>in the area thanks to its commitment to <strong>education<\/strong>, its <strong>participation <\/strong>in the <strong>conservation<\/strong> of <strong>natural resources<\/strong> and <strong>the improvement<\/strong> of <strong>natural ecosystems.<\/strong> Another agreement has been made with <strong>IbizaPreservation<\/strong> for the planning and implementation of the preparatory activities for the<strong> Marine Forum of Ibiza and Formentera<\/strong>, a<strong> debate forum<\/strong> which will bring together <strong>top national <\/strong>and <strong>international <\/strong>experts in <strong>ecology, sustainability <\/strong>and <strong>seabeds<\/strong>. The company has also launched a <strong>short to medium term<\/strong> plan which looks to <strong>eliminate <\/strong>the <strong>use <\/strong>of <strong>plastic<\/strong> in all of the <strong>hotels<\/strong> in the <strong>Fuerte Group<\/strong>.
